I'm pleased to report the arrival of this year's run of Alaska Silver Salmon! While only some fishermen are catching their daily limit of two silvers, the frequency of this event is improving.
A week ago 4 fishermen with me caught only 1 silver among them. Yesterday 4 fishermen caught 4 silvers, with one person catching his limit.
Most boats are anchored up between the Pillars launch and Beaver Creek. Most of them employ a traditional rig, using cured eggs on a looped hook and a jet planer. I too have utilized this approach, however it has not as yet proved successful. My clients have had success casting spoons or spinners. I suggest a gold or silver Pixie spoon; alternatively a Mepps or Blue Fox Super Vibrax spinner with a blade size of a 3 or 4.
Make your plans to join us on the Kenai River for what looks like an exciting Alaska Silver Salmon Fishing season. The speed and power of a 7-9 pound silver is just amazing!!
